Send your resume and cover letter to: Cerlyn Cantave
Job Summary: We are seeking a strategic, creative, and experienced Director of Marketing & Communications to lead a major refresh of our communications platforms — including a full website overhaul — while building and executing an integrated marketing and communications strategy. The Director will drive media relations, manage all branded materials, support internal communications, and serve as a key storyteller for the Social Centers’ impact.
Key Responsibilities
1. Website Refresh & Management
Lead a comprehensive redesign of EBSC’s website in partnership with a consultant, reimagining site architecture, language, imagery, and user experience to more powerfully communicate our mission and impact.
Oversee content strategy, and ensure that the website is engaging, accessible, and aligned with our values and brand voice.
Maintain and update the website regularly (e.g., news, programs, impact stories), ensuring it remains fresh, accurate, and optimized for performance.
2. Media Relations & External Communications
Serve as the primary media contact for EBSC; build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national journalists.
Pitch stories, place op-eds, and coordinate interviews to amplify our programs, community impact, and thought leadership.
Develop press releases, media kits, and talking points for leadership and program staff.
3. Collateral & Branded Materials Production
Oversee the creation of all EBSC branded materials, including (but not limited to): annual report, fundraising appeals, newsletters, brochures, flyers, event materials, and swag.
Manage design processes (in-house or with external vendors), ensuring brand consistency and high-quality production.
Work cross-functionally with development, programs, and operations to tailor materials for different audiences (donors, families, volunteers, community partners).
4. Internal Communications
Partner with Human Resources to develop and distribute internal communications, such as a staff newsletter and other internal updates.
Support efforts to strengthen organizational culture and engagement through regular, transparent communication with staff, board, and stakeholders.
5. Strategic Planning & MarComms Strategy
Develop and implement an annual marketing and communications plan aligned with EBSC’s strategic goals, fundraising calendar, and program priorities.
Monitor, evaluate, and report on key communications metrics (e.g., web traffic, media placements, engagement) to measure impact and refine strategy.
6. Cross-Program Collaboration & Storytelling
Work closely with program teams, staff, board members, program participants, volunteers, and community members to identify compelling stories and newsworthy moments.
Elevate program successes and community voices across communications platforms (web, social media, newsletters, press).
Qualifications
Proven experience in nonprofit marketing and communications, ideally in a leadership role.
Media relations success: demonstrated ability to secure media coverage and place op-eds for nonprofit organizations. (Please provide samples of media placements / op-eds.)
Web experience: demonstrated experience leading or managing a website redesign or refresh, particularly for mission-driven organizations. (Please provide examples or portfolio.)
Design and collateral production skills: comfortable creating (or overseeing creation of) brochures, flyers, annual reports, etc., with good design sense. (Please include examples.)
Strong writing and editing skills, and ability to tailor messaging to diverse audiences.
Excellent interpersonal skills: able to build relationships across teams, programs, and with community stakeholders.
Self-starter who can lead independently, but also collaborate well on a team.
Strategic thinker with the ability to develop long-term communications plans and execute them.
Bilingual in Spanish (spoken and written) is strongly preferred, given the diverse community we serve.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Competencies & Personal Attributes
Passion for EBSC’s mission and commitment to building a community where “all give and all gain”.
Creativity and a strong visual sense; an ability to imagine “what could be” and bring it to life.
High emotional intelligence and cultural humility; comfortable working with diverse stakeholders.
Organized and detail-oriented, with strong project management skills.
Adaptable and flexible, able to pivot as needs change.
